Crypto farm threatening to leave the whole city without electricity was closed in Ukraine

In Ukraine, 5 thousand devices for mining were discovered, which were located in one of the former premises of Vinnytsiaoblenergo. This is the largest clandestine crypto farm that could be found on the territory of the country.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced the suppression of the work of the country’s largest illegal crypto farm.

According to the ministry, the criminals illegally installed about 5 thousand devices for the extraction of cryptocurrency in one of the former premises of JSC “Vinnytsiaoblenergo” and illegally fed them with energy from the company’s networks.

SBU officers found out that residents of Kiev and Vinnitsa owned the illegal crypto farm. According to preliminary estimates, the monthly amount of losses from the activities of illegal miners ranged from 5 to 7 million hryvnias (13.75-19.25 million Dollar), and the illegal selection of electricity threatened to leave entire neighborhoods in Vinnitsa without electricity.

During the searches at the location of the crypto farm and at the addresses of the suspects’ residence, 3.5 thousand game consoles, over 500 video cards, 50 processors, as well as documentation on accounting for electricity consumption, notebooks, phones and flash drives were seized.
