Apple co-founder has failed to prove that the service was involved in the distribution of videos that attackers used to deceive users
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak lost a lawsuit against video hosting YouTube in a cryptocurrency fraud case, Bloomberg reported . The businessman filed a lawsuit against the company back in July 2020, accusing the service of allowing the posting of fraudulent materials on his behalf.
In these materials, the attackers used the name of a businessman and other influential persons such as Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Michael Dell. Video hosting users were persuaded to send cryptocurrency to a specific address, promising to send twice as much in return.
Santa Clara County Supreme Court Justice Sunil Kulkarnia referred to US federal law, according to which Internet platforms are not responsible for content posted by users.
Earlier, Wozniak argued that video hosting not only did not remove fraudulent videos for a long period of time, but also promoted their promotion by directing targeted traffic to them from other videos.
