In the coming months, the regulator will aim to review cryptocurrency trading platforms in order to provide protection to investors
The head of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Gary Gensler, said that in 2022 the agency will focus on regulating cryptocurrency exchanges, Bloomberg reports . Gensler also hopes that trading platforms will take the initiative in this matter in the coming months.
Checking cryptocurrency exchanges for compliance with all legal regulations is important primarily to protect investors working with digital assets, the head of the SEC added.
“I asked to explore all the ways to include these platforms in the field of investor protection.
If trading platforms do not enter the regulated space, this will be another year of vulnerability for crypto investors,” Gensler said.
In September 2021, Gensler called the cryptocurrency market the Wild West due to the large number of scammers and insufficient protection for owners of crypto assets.
