Hacking a Beeple account brought the attackers $438,000 in NFTs

The official page of digital artist and popular NFT creator Mike Winkelmann, aka Beeple, was hacked on Sunday, May 22nd. Fraudsters stole tokens using phishing links
Hackers have hacked into the page of digital artist and popular NFT creator Mike Winkelmann, aka Beeple. The phishing links appeared on social media on Sunday and were posted there for five hours, security researcher Harry Denley said .

Network analysis of one of the scam wallets showed that the first phishing link brought 36 Ethereum (ETH) worth approximately $73,000. The second link brought the attackers ETH and NFT from expensive collections such as Mutant Ape Yacht Club, VeeFriends and others, worth about $365 thousand, bringing the total value of the stolen items to about $438,000.
 
 
 





 
 
 
Transaction analytics showed that the scammer put up NFTs for sale on OpenSea and moves the received ETH into the mixer in an attempt to launder profits.





In early May, Beeple partnered with Louis Vuitton NFT to develop 30 tokens for the Louis The Game mobile game, which were embedded as rewards for players. The artist has created three of the ten most expensive NFTs sold to date, one of which sold for $69.3 million. It became the most expensive token ever sold to a single owner.
In November 2021, the Beeple account was already hacked by scammers who also posted false links, causing users to lose about 38 ETH.
Actor Seth Green lost $300,000 worth of NFTs in early May by clicking on a fake link while trying to buy the token.
