Perth Heat Baseball Players Will Be The First In The World To Receive Salaries In Bitcoin

The sports organization will accept cryptocurrency as sponsorship payments and keep it on the balance sheet. Perth Heat also changed the club emblem, adding the BTC logo to it.

Australian baseball club Perth Heat has announced a partnership with cryptocurrency payment system OpenNode to pay athletes and staff salaries in Bitcoin based on the Lightning Network Layer 2 protocol.

The club’s announcement notes that Perth Heat will become the world’s first professional baseball club to pay salaries in bitcoin.

Perth Heat also announced its readiness to accept cryptocurrency as sponsorship payments and payments for the club’s souvenir goods.

The club plans to keep the received bitcoin on the balance sheet. In addition, Perth Heat redesigned the club’s emblem with the bitcoin logo.

In August, it became known that Lionel Messi would receive part of his salary in PSG tokens.

In June, NASCAR racer Landon Cassill became the first driver in league history to receive a salary in cryptocurrency. To do this, Cassill partnered with cryptocurrency broker Voyager.

In February, legendary American baseball player Mika Johnson raised $ 1 million in the first minute of an auction that sold NFT tokens tied to his artwork. All lots were sold out in 28 hours and brought Johnson $ 2 million.
