Restrictions will remain in effect until the US National Football League develops a strategy for interacting with Crypto assets.
The United States National Football League (NFL) has informed clubs that they are prohibited from entering into sponsorships and advertising contracts for cryptocurrency-related companies, according to The Athletic .
According to the publication, American football clubs can no longer sell their own Non Fungible Tokens (NFT). The restrictions remain in place until the NFL prepares a digital asset strategy.
NFT tokens are unique and not divisible. Such tokens are used to confirm ownership of an object;
they cannot be replaced without the consent of the owner.
“Clubs are prohibited from selling or otherwise placing advertisements for specific cryptocurrency ,
initial offerings of coins, goods and services related to blockchain,
digital assets and blockchain companies in the media they control,” the source explained.
In April, Kansas City Chiefs player Sean Calkin announced that he would transfer his entire salary for 2021 to Bitcoin. He became the first player in the history of the National Football League to convert his annual income into cryptocurrency.

At the same time, the club of the National Basketball Association (NBA) “Sacramento Kings” became the first sports team in history, which made it possible for players to receive a salary in cryptocurrency.
Sacramento Kings has been actively using cryptocurrencies since 2014. The club sells a lot for bitcoin – from match tickets to hot dogs.
Crypto.com, a cryptocurrency exchange service, signed a sponsorship deal with British sports car maker Aston Martin in March . In 2021, the company returned to Formula 1 after a 61-year hiatus. Its cars bear the logos of the crypto exchanger.
Also in the spring, English Premier League football club Southampton extended its sponsorship contract with sports betting platform Sportsbet.io for three years, under which it will receive bonuses in cryptocurrency .
In the summer of 2019, Litecoin became the official cryptocurrency of the NFL Miami Dolphins. In 2018 Litecoin entered into partnership with the UFC, which holds fights in mixed martial arts.
